Back Pain or stiffness

There are a number of reasons that cause back pain. Commonly, it can be from physical stress in our daily lifestyles such as prolonged sitting or a traumatic injury.

Mental stresses or worry and tension can tighten up our back muscles and delay recovery. Sometimes, back pain can be accompanied by nerve pain, such as sciatica. You may also experience pins and needles or numbness in the leg. Generally, the longer you delay management of back pain, the more difficult it is to repair. It is important to keep moving regularly. The old advice of bed rest, heat or lying on a plank of wood is long gone!

Visiting a qualified health professional, such as a chiropractor, who is experienced in diagnosing conditions of the spine and body, can help treat it or identify if a referral or specialist investigations are needed.

The National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidelines (NICE, 2016) recommended manual therapy, such as chiropractic, as a 'gold-standard treatment' for helping low back pain. Our highly skilled practitioners deal with back pain on a daily basis. Although our holistic chiropractors help with a variety of conditions, many people consult us with back pain, as it is such a common complaint.

Neck Pain or stiffness

Most people will experience some form of neck pain during their lives. This may resolve quickly or become persistent affecting your quality of life. It can even give rise to arm pain, headaches or migraine. Neck pain or shoulder tension is becoming even more likely with our current trends in technology giving rise to “text neck” and stooped-over sedentary postures.

Although it can be very painful, neck pain rarely has a serious underlying cause. Less frequently, the nerves in the neck can become trapped, compressed or irritated. There can be many reasons why this occurs. Damaged discs or repetitive strain can lead to pain spreading to the shoulder and arm. You may experience tingling, numbness and weakness in the arm or hand.
Visiting a qualified health professional, such as a chiropractor who is experienced in diagnosing conditions of the neck and spine, can help treat neck pain safely and effectively, preventing it in the future. We can also identify if specialist investigation is needed.
